January 19-25 Standing Strong (Daniel 3:16-28)
Opening Prayer
Begin by inviting the Holy Spirit to guide your time together. Ask God to strengthen your faith and empower you to stand firm during trials.
Discussion Guide
1. Scripture Reflection (Daniel 3:16-28)
Read the passage aloud together. Afterward, reflect on the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
- What do you think it took for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to stand firm in their faith despite the threat of death?
- Why do you think they declared that even if God did not deliver them, they would still refuse to worship the idol?
- What role does trusting in God’s sovereignty play in their response?
2. Prayer and Fasting Strengthen Us to Stand (Daniel 2:17-18)
Daniel and his friends prayed and fasted for God’s mercy and guidance when their lives were at risk. Reflect on the connection between prayer, fasting, and standing strong in trials.
- How does prayer and fasting equip us to stand firm in challenging times?
- What are some personal trials or challenges you are currently facing? How can prayer and fasting help you stand firm in those situations?
3. Contrast with Society: What Are You Known For? (Stanley Hauerwas)
In his writings, Stanley Hauerwas talks about being known for what you stand for, not just what you’re against. Reflect on how this relates to the example of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
- How are we, as Christians, often called to stand apart from the world?
- Are there any areas in your life where God might be calling you to take a stand, even if it’s unpopular or difficult?
- How can our commitment and trust in God give us courage to live differently from the world around us?
4. God is With Us in Our Trials
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were not alone in the fire. God was with them, and He delivered them. Discuss how God’s presence in the trials of life can impact us.
- Have you experienced God’s presence in a difficult time? How did that change your perspective or help you stand firm?
- How can we be more aware of God’s presence in the middle of our trials today?
5. Boldness and Witness
Their unwavering commitment to God had an impact on those watching them. King Nebuchadnezzar ultimately praised God because of their boldness.
- How can our boldness in standing firm in faith impact those who are watching us?
- What does it mean to have courage that stems from trust in God? How might this influence the way we engage with others who may not share our faith?
Application: Take Away
“Pray and Fast with Your ONE in Mind, Focus on ONE.”
- Who is your “ONE”? The person who is not following Jesus and you are adjusting life to share with them.
- How can your prayer and fasting strengthen your ability to stand firm in faith and impact that person’s life?
- Commit to praying for that person this week, asking God to give you boldness to be a witness of His love and truth.
Closing Prayer
Take a moment to pray for each other, lifting up personal requests and committing to stand firm in faith, trusting that God is with you through every trial.
January 26-February 1 Pray Anyways (Daniel 6:10-23)
Opening Prayer
Begin by inviting God into the time together, asking for strength to remain steadfast in prayer and for God to speak through His Word.

Read the passage aloud together. Afterward, reflect on Daniel’s unwavering commitment to prayer.
- What was at stake for Daniel when he continued to pray in defiance of the royal decree?
- How did Daniel’s actions demonstrate his trust in God over his fear of human consequences?
- Why do you think Daniel was so consistent in his prayer life, praying three times daily despite the threat of death?
2. Prayer is the Pathway to Breakthrough and Deliverance
Daniel’s prayer led to his miraculous deliverance from the lions’ den. Discuss how prayer opens the way for God to move in our lives.
- How can prayer become a pathway for breakthrough in our lives today?
- Have you ever experienced a “deliverance” after a season of prayer? What did that look like for you?
- In what areas of your life do you need God’s breakthrough or deliverance right now? How does prayer impact those situations?
3. Consistent Prayer Despite Danger
Daniel prayed consistently, even when his life was at risk. This is a powerful example of devotion.
- What are some challenges or dangers you face that might make prayer feel difficult or risky?
- What does Daniel’s example teach us about remaining committed to prayer even in hard times?
- How can you build a consistent prayer habit, even when circumstances feel overwhelming?
4. Trusting God Over Human Fear and Threats
Despite the king’s decree and the threat of death, Daniel’s trust in God was unshakable.
- How do we sometimes allow fear of human consequences or opposition to silence our prayers?
- What would it look like for you to choose trust in God over fear of man in your daily life?
- What fears or challenges do you need to surrender to God, trusting Him above all else?
5. Faithful Prayers Bring God-Sized Results
Daniel’s faithful prayers resulted in an extraordinary outcome—God’s intervention and deliverance.
- What are some examples in Scripture or in your life where faithful prayer led to God-sized results?
- How can we trust God for the outcome, even if we don’t see immediate results from our prayers?
- How can we remain faithful in prayer, even when the answers seem delayed or unclear?
Application: Take Away
“In the Face of Hardship, Trial, Difficulty…KEEP PRAYING (Start Praying Again).”
- Think about a current situation in your life where prayer is needed, but you’ve been hesitant or distracted. How can you commit to praying consistently in that area starting today?
- What steps can you take to build a habit of regular, consistent prayer in the coming days?
- Pray for boldness to trust God in the face of challenges and to keep praying, even when it seems difficult.
February 2-8 Breakthrough (Daniel 9:13-19 & 10:2-14)
Opening Prayer
Open the session by inviting God to speak to your hearts and minds. Ask Him to prepare you for breakthrough and to open your eyes to His will and His Word.
Discussion Guide
1. Scripture Reflection (Daniel 9:3-19 & Daniel 10:2-14)
Read the passages aloud together. Reflect on the way Daniel prayed, fasted, and petitioned God on behalf of Israel.
- Why did Daniel humble himself before God with fasting and confession?
- How did Daniel’s prayer reflect both personal and communal repentance? Why is this important in our prayer life?
- What do we learn from Daniel’s prayer of confession, and how does this apply to us today?
2. Fasting and Prayer Open Understanding to Spiritual Things and Breakthrough
Daniel’s fasting and prayer opened him to both understanding and breakthrough, even in the face of spiritual opposition. Reflect on how fasting and prayer can unlock spiritual insight and God’s responses.
- What does it mean that fasting and prayer open us up to spiritual things?
- How can we actively seek understanding through prayer and fasting?
- Have you ever experienced breakthrough after a season of prayer and fasting? Share any personal stories of spiritual insight or answered prayer.
3. Spiritual Opposition and Delay
In Daniel’s experience, spiritual opposition delayed the answer to his prayers, but God still heard him from the first day.
- What do you think it means that God heard Daniel’s prayers on the first day, even though there was a delay in the response?
- How can we persevere in prayer when there seems to be a delay in the answer or when we encounter opposition?
- Have you experienced any delays or opposition to your prayers? How did you navigate it, and what did you learn from that season?
4. Celebrating Breakthrough and God’s Answered Prayer
After Daniel received his answer, he was able to see that God had been working all along, even when he couldn’t see the results immediately. This reminds us to celebrate and give thanks when breakthrough comes.
- Why is it important to celebrate when God answers our prayers, even if it takes time?
- How can we cultivate a heart of gratitude when we experience breakthrough?
- Take a moment to reflect on a prayer God has answered in your life during this fast. Share your testimony with the group.
5. How Does This Move Forward?
God’s answers often prompt us to move forward in faith. After breakthrough, we are called to continue praying, standing firm, and seeing what God will do next.
- What does it look like for us to move forward in faith after experiencing a breakthrough in prayer?
- How can we continue to engage with God after seeing answers to prayer or breakthroughs in our lives?
Application: Take Away
“Prayer and Fasting Open the Door for Spiritual Breakthrough.”
- Is there an area of your life where you need a breakthrough? What can you do this week to continue praying and fasting, trusting that God hears your prayers?
- Consider any opposition you may be facing in your prayers or fasting. How can you remain steadfast, knowing that God is at work even when you can’t see it?
- Celebrate God’s faithfulness by sharing what He has done in your life with others, and continue to look for ways to pray with expectation for breakthroughs.
Closing Prayer
Take time to pray for one another, asking God to bring breakthrough, understanding, and His mercy to each person. Thank Him for hearing your prayers and for the breakthroughs yet to come.
End of Session
Encourage everyone to reflect on what they’ve learned during the 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Remind them to celebrate the breakthroughs they’ve seen and to continue in prayer as they move forward.

Fasting is fasting from food. The following are options of ways to fast from food.
Complete Fast
This fast involves consuming only liquids, typically water, with the option to include light juices.
Meal Removal Fast
This fast entails skipping one or two meals a day and refraining from snacking during the fasting period.
Partial Fast
Also referred to as the “Jewish Fast,” this practice involves abstaining from all food during the morning and afternoon. It can be observed during specific hours, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunrise to sunset.
Selective Fast
In this fast, specific foods are excluded from your diet. For example, the “Daniel Fast” involves eliminating meat, sweets, and bread, while consuming water, juice, fruits, and vegetables.
*In addition to fasting food or if you have a medical issue that prevents you from fasting, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television (or remove something else) for the duration of the fast and then if you choose to bring it back, do so carefully in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
Prayer is communicating with God. Listening and speaking.
Below are ideas of ways to pray. We encourage you not to over-complicate it. Be honest. Be real. Be you.
Adore God-Focus upon praise of God for who He is—His character, attributes, and majesty—without asking for anything. Sing a song and/or express love and reverence in personal words.
Confession-Acknowledge sin and ask for God’s forgiveness and cleansing. “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” (Psalm 139:23-24)
Thanksgiving-Express gratitude to God for His blessings, provisions, and faithfulness. Keep a gratitude journal or pray through a list of blessings.
Supplication (Petition)-Brings personal needs, desires, or concerns before God, seeking His guidance or intervention. Pray for healing, provision, or wisdom.
Intercession-Pray on behalf of others, ask God to work in the lives of others. Praying for family, friends, leaders, or global concerns.
Meditative Prayer-Focus on quiet reflection, a Scripture passage, listen to God and deepen understanding of who God is. Try Lectio Divina, a practice of reading and meditating on a Bible passage.
Corporate Prayer-Pray with others in a group setting, such as church, small groups, or prayer meetings. Taking turns praying aloud.
Lament-Express grief, sorrow, or frustration to God while seeking His comfort and hope. Read and pray through the Psalms of lament, such as Psalm 13.
Blessing or Benediction-Pray for God’s favor, guidance, or protection over oneself or others. “The Lord bless you and keep you…” (Numbers 6:24-26)
Spiritual Warfare Prayer-Pray against spiritual opposition, declaring God’s power and protection. Use the armor of God described in Ephesians 6:10-18.
Breath Prayer-A short, repeated prayer focused on a phrase or Scripture while aligning with breathing. “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
Sundays
- Before Services (sanctuary) The sanctuary is set aside for prayer 8:15-8:25am and 10:10-10:20am. Pray individually or with another in this quiet space.

Wednesdays (6:30-7:30pm, Room 101) This weekly prayer group of men and women meet to read the Word and pray together for each other, the church, the community, and the world.
Thursdays (3rd Thursdays, 9:30-11am, Shirley Works Home) This ladies prayer group meets to encourage and pray together.

NEXT STEP - DEVELOP - Opportunities to Grow
Practicing the Way is a journey designed to help you integrate the teachings of Jesus into your everyday life. The courses & practices invites you to explore spiritual practices like Sabbath, prayer, fasting, simplicity, and hospitality—habits that can transform your relationship with God, your community, and yourself.
Through guided teachings, practical exercises, and meaningful group discussions, you’ll learn how to align your daily rhythms with the way of Jesus. This journey is for anyone looking to slow down, grow spiritually, and live with greater purpose in a world full of distractions. It’s an opportunity to deepen your faith and experience the life God designed for you.
COURSES
- Practicing the Way – This course is the starting place to begin this journey. It is designed to help get you started on the journey of spiritual formation, help you get unstuck if you’ve stalled out, or just guide you into taking your next step. Ultimately, its goal is to train you to live as an apprentice of Jesus: to be with Jesus, become like him, and do as he did. Eight weeks (eight sessions in person). Required course before the practices.
January 20-March 10, 2025, facilitated by Josh Nye (FBC member and previous course participant). Mondays. 5:45-7:15PM.
SIGN UP FOR JANUARY 2025 COURSE HERE
PREVIOUS COURSES OFFERED:
- October 14-December 9, 2024, facilitated by Kris Tarkiewicz
PRACTICES
- Sabbath – Sabbath is a twenty-four hour time period set aside to stop, rest, delight, and worship. It is the best day of the week. In our era of chronic exhaustion, emotional unhealth, and spiritual stagnation, few things are more necessary than the recovery of this ancient practice. Eight weeks (four sessions in person). Prerequisite: Practicing the Way Course
- Course Offering 1: January 21-March 4, 2025, facilitated by Kris Tarkiewicz
FUTURE PRACTICES
- Prayer Practice will help you learn to set aside dedicated time to intentionally be with God, in order to become like him and partner with him in the world. Prerequisite: Practicing the Way Course
- Fasting Practice is one of the most essential and powerful of all the practices of Jesus and, arguably, the single most neglected one in the modern, Western church. The Fasting Practice will train you in this ancient discipline, integrating your whole body into life with God. Prerequisite: Practicing the Way Course
- Solitude Practice in an increasingly distracted and noisy world, we need solitude more than ever. The practice of solitude mimics Jesus’ rhythm of retreat and return: retreat from people and distractions to be with God, in order to return to community in love and service. Prerequisite: Practicing the Way Course
- Generosity Practice when Jesus said there is more joy in giving than in receiving, he turned our vision of the good life on its head. Through the practice of generosity, we tap into God’s joy, find freedom from greed through contentment, and embody God’s concern for those in need. Prerequisite: Practicing the Way Course

At Alternatives Care Center (ministry partner of FBC) our Freedom Ministry offers help, hope and support to those who have experienced an abortion. Sit with women who have received healing themselves and will help to empower you to heal and reach your full potential– all through the power of Jesus Christ. And everything shared never leaves the group you are in because of the sensitivity of the experiences.

The New Building is Open! What to Know & Expect
PARKING & ENTRY/EXIT
Which doors should I use to enter/exit? Please use the 1) new north entry doors from the new north parking lot OR the 2) new south doors underneath the new overhang. Look for the A-Frame signs by these doors with “Welcome to Family Bible Church”.
May I enter/exit the old south doors outside entry doors? No. On Sundays, please use new entry/exit points. You will not be able to move through the ARK space on Sundays from the parking lot or sanctuary (only through the HUB).
Where should I park? Most people will park in the south lot. Others may park in the new north lot. Part of the new north lot is reserved for seniors and mobility limited people. Please look for the sign to indicate. STAFF & VOLUNTEERS: If possible please park at Kempf Funeral Home. There is a wood-chipped path between the properties.
What if the parking lot is full? Look for a parking team member for assistance. They will direct you to overflow parking. If the ground is solid you may park on the grass near Old 27 or elsewhere.
Handicapped Parking. Please only park in these spaces if your license plate or placard are clearly displayed. This applies everyday and every hour of the week (not just Sundays).
INSIDE THE BUILDING
Which restrooms should I use? You may use the new restrooms in the HUB or the old restrooms in the hallway just south of the sanctuary.
May I use the HUB during services? Yes. Feel free to spend your time at a table, couch or chair.
Will the worship services be broadcasts into the HUB? Yes. W broadcast the service to the TV’s near the cafe and New? Start Here area.
What if I have a question, who should I ask? FBC volunteers will wear a black badge and lanyard. Ask any of them for help.
Will there be snacks and drinks at the cafe? Yes. We will continue to offer drip coffee. There will also be water bottles and juice along with snacks most weeks. Donations are optional. All donations will go toward building out the cafe with more drink options including espresso drinks.
What about seating in the sanctuary? Please make space for others who are looking for seats. Also, let ushers know if you have room near or around you. If you are a regular here, consider moving forward to fill seats closer to the front so we save room for guests.
ARK (CHILDREN’S WING)
How do I enter the ARK? From the HUB. All doors leading into the ARK remain locked before, during and after service
Who may enter the ARK on Sundays? Only children, teachers/leaders, and parents/guardians with tags will be able to enter.
What do I need to pick up or check on my child? Your parent tag. A children’s ministry volunteer or safety team member will check your tag before you may enter.
Do I need to show my tag to pick up my child from their classroom? Yes. Show your tag to the classroom teacher who will dismiss your child to you.
What do I do if I lose my tag? Please stop at the NEW? START HERE desk where Corrie or Emily will assist you.
If I am in the ARK, where may I exit? You may exit the ARK from the south doors (to the parking lot) or the doors by the men’s bathroom.
May I reenter the ARK from these doors? No. You must go around to the HUB to reenter. Please do not make this awkward for yourself, the volunteer, or safety team member by knocking on the doors.
Where is the nursing room? Families who need access to a nursing room are invited to use the “living room” space (near the drinking fountain by the sanctuary). This space offers a comfortable seating area and a bathroom with changing table. Families with little ones who need to wiggle and move are welcome to use our new space!
Thank you, parents, for helping ensure our building remains secure and our children are kept safe!
Which door should I use Monday through Thursday during regular office hours (8AM-4PM)? The north entry. Ring the doorbell and someone will buzz you in.
Which door should I use for my group or event? Contact your group or event leader. They should coordinate with the office to determine which entrance is best to use.
Handicapped Parking. Please only park in these spaces if your license plate or placard are clearly displayed. This applies everyday and every hour of the week (not just Sundays).
May I come and use the HUB during the week to work, study, have a conversation with another person or just come and be where others are? Yes. At least one of the seating areas should be available. Call ahead to confirm hours we are open and/or check in with the office when you arrive.
May I reserve a space in the church for a special event, group or gathering? Check with Mary in the office by calling 269-781-8400 or email mary@familybible.church.
How many square feet is the new addition? Between 10,000-11,000 square feet.
What is happening the in the “courtyard” between the buildings? We hope to have some people develop it into a nice outdoor seating area for people to enjoy. If you are interested in being a part please contact the office.
What should I do if I have another question? Contact the office at 781-8400 or mary@familybible.church

FORWARD Campaign
Why Build?
As we shared when we first launched the FORWARD Campaign in May 2022, together we will continue to be a church who develops followers of Jesus who serve to reach ONE more. We expanded our facility in order for you, your ONE, and many others to encounter Jesus in a loving community. Our fully built out building has space in the large hub/gathering lobby where we will see the formation of community and healing conversations before and after services over coffee from the coffee shop. We have a kitchen where meals will be prepared and fellowship, laughter and stories will be shared. We have a large indoor playground, open to the community during the week, year-round, where children make new friends and so do mom, dad or grandma and grandpa with others who come together. Where these small conversations lead to big conversations of faith.
We have a space for our middle and high school students in Marshall and the surrounding communities, who in recent years have met in lobbies, the sanctuary, and various rooms, to have a dedicated place of their own. It is a building where they can welcome their friends from their neighborhood or school to encounter Jesus for the first time. This building is a place where children of all ages have a warm, welcoming, secure, dedicated space to learn about Jesus and develop new friendships on Sunday mornings, at Awana and each summer at VBS. We envision ministries and groups of all ages from the church and community gathering in this new building during the week in our warm and welcoming spaces where strangers become friends and ultimately family as we follow Jesus together.
You can learn more below in the FORWARD campaign link and update. CLICK HERE: www.familybible.church/forward
May 2024 marked two years since we began our campaign.
We invite you to be part of the pledge campaign however, if you choose not to pledge, you may still give to the building campaign weekly, biweekly, monthly or give a one time gift.
Thank you for your commitment, giving, and most importantly PRAYER toward this amazing project!
